Seesaw Permission

Dear Parents and Carers,

This year in St Luke’s we will be continuing to use Seesaw (http://seesaw.me), a secure online journal where students can document and reflect on what they are learning in class. Your child is able to add the things we work on (including photos, videos, worksheets, drawings and voice recordings) to their Seesaw journal and we can share them privately with you and other family members throughout the school year.

In order for your child to use Seesaw, the app needs your child’s name in order to be able to associate work like their photos, videos or voice recordings with their account. Seesaw only uses this information to provide the service and doesn’t advertise, create profiles of students, share or sell your child’s personal information or journal content. You can read more about their privacy promises here: https://web.seesaw.me/privacy.

Under an EU law called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), in order for your child to use Seesaw, the school must get your consent. For more information on GDPR please visit https://ec.europa.eu/info/law/law-topic/data-protection/reform/rights-citizens.

Please note- Seesaw will not be used for two way communication between home and school via the private messaging function. This feature is disabled for all Midlothian schools and ELC settings. Families will continue to be able to comment on or like posts.

Access to Seesaw as a parent or guardian is available through the Seesaw app which you can download on any phone or tablet or through the Seesaw website. The feature to be able to switch between children on the app is being released by Seesaw in the coming weeks. In the meantime it is recommended that you use Seesaw on different devices or browsers to enable you to access the journal of more than one child at the same time.

I hope that your child will enjoy using Seesaw to document and share their learning this year. Please complete the parental permission Google form so that your child can start using Seesaw as soon as possible. This permission will be kept in school and used for the duration of your child’s schooling. Should you wish to withdraw consent at any time, please contact the school office.

Kind Regards,

Mr Tilmouth
