As you may already know, Primary 3 have written a song trying to raise awareness about the importance of giving money to charity. This has been part of the school’s efforts to raise money for SCIAF. We set ourselves the objective of getting it played on the radio. We’ve been getting a bit of local media attention that I thought you might like to be aware of. If you’ve not yet heard the song, you can hear it on the school’s website.

STV online

STV’s local website ran a story about the children’s efforts last Friday. You can view it here.

Black Diamond FM

We’ve been successful in getting it played on the radio! Black Diamond FM are going to play the song this Saturday morning (The 14th) between 11.30am and 12.00pm. Make sure you tune in to hear its first play on the radio!

Midlothian Advertiser

There is going to be a feature about the children and the song in next Wednesday’s edition of the paper.

STV Edinburgh

Possibly the most exciting thing to happen so far is that STV Edinburgh want to come in and film the children singing the song next Wednesday (The 18th)! The idea is that this will then be played on The Fountainbridge Show that evening. You can find STV Edinburgh on Freeview channel 23, Sky channel 117 and Virgin channel 159. It will also be available to watch live on the STV Player. The Fountainbridge Show starts at 7pm.

Digital Learning Week

Last week was Digital Learning Week. All across Scotland children and teachers were trying new technology in the classroom. As part of our computer games topic, Primary 3 have been learning some basic computer coding using an app called Scratch Jr on the iPads.

We tweeted the photo and it was picked up by Glow Scotland who chose to use it as part of a blog post about Digital Learning Week!

We’re going to try and see if we can get it played on a local radio station.

You can listen to it below.

Community Learning

Yesterday Primary Seven along with Paul Glynn assisted in the creation of pot planters for the Mayfield Community Day.

The children really enjoyed learning that you can grow plants and vegetables in the smallest of spaces along with using recyclable materials.

Risk Factory

Primary Seven attended the Risk Factory yesterday. The children were split into groups and had the opportunity to assess and manage several risks.

Some of the scenarios included a fire, a cycling accident, vandalism, risks at home and cyber bullying along with several more.

The children really enjoyed this trip and have come away with additional knowledge and skills to support them within their own lives.
