Number Clubs

This year all children in St Luke’s will be taking part in Number Clubs. Number Clubs are short tests designed to help children improve the speed of recalling key numeracy facts. It starts with working on number formation and number bonds, through times tables and then on to percentages and fractions. The children have 3 minutes to answer the questions of the club regardless of the club they are on. This is to help improve the speed of recall of important number facts.

The children will take their club every week. If they get 100% 3 times in a row they then move up to the next club. If they get 100% the very first time they take a new number club, then the children move up straight away to the next level. Children in Primary 1 will start this later in the year.

Practising the number facts contained in the clubs is really important so this practice will be the children’s numeracy homework each week. Once the club has been marked and the teacher has made a note of the score, it will be sent home so you can see how they are progressing and which questions they need to practice.

Children can progress as quickly or as slowly as they are comfortable with through the clubs. Some classes have already taken part in number clubs. For those who haven’t, the class teacher will decide on the most appropriate starting point for the class.
