Look at the different characters in the story – mouse, fox, owl, snake, Gruffalo. Ask your child questions about size e.g. Who is the tallest/shortest? Who is bigger – snake or mouse? Who is the smallest of all the characters? There are pictures on the next page to help you.

Go on a size hunt. When you are out for your daily walk ask your child to look at the size of the trees or plants around you. Which are the tallest/shortest, etc. You might find some Gruffalo footprints while you are out walking so be careful!
